​​At Nexus Institute Yoga & Wellness, co-founders Horace and Janel Usry bring together two uniquely rich life paths into one shared mission: to make yoga, self-discovery, and spiritual growth accessible to everyone. From Wall Street boardrooms to the quiet halls of a convent, their lives could not have started further apart—yet both were drawn to yoga as a path of awakening.

Horace and Janel met in the Pacific Coast jungle of Costa Rica in 2013.  They shared their visions for a yoga school during walks on the Pacific Coast at sunset and during long soaks in the beautiful tropical tide pools. They arrived in Costa Rica from two tautly different backgrounds.  Janel had spent over twenty years in a cloistered Catholic monastery as a Nun.  Horace had spent over twenty years in investment banking.  Both became ardent practitioners of yoga and students of yoga philosophy. Their walks and talks became the genesis of Nexus Institute Yoga & Wellness.

Together, they have guided thousands of students from around the world through 200-, 300-, and 500-hour Yoga Teacher Trainings and personal growth retreats in Costa Rica. Their approach is rooted in compassion, respect for each person’s life story, and the belief that yoga is not just a physical practice but a gateway to authenticity, wholeness, and freedom. Nexus graduates are uniquely qualified to share their own personal teaching styles upon graduation through yoga asana classes and their own developed spiritual wisdom.
